Personally love #2, it just feels classic to me. Did you use the burn tool on #4?

Beautiful! I love the warm lighting. My fave is #4, the cathedral in the background makes it very unique.

No, there was some late afternoon sunlight on the cathedral, I'd been back a few times to this same place, and you needed some late sun for it to work, otherwise the cathedral fades into shadow.

Each time I'd been it was either sun + no deer in the FG or deer+no sun.

On another occasion I thought I'd got it right deer+sun, but I'd used too narrow DOF so the cathedral was completely OOF.

In this shot, I kept pushing the DOF as far as I could without slowing the shutter speed too much.

Hello, Les!
Number 4 really is a splended image. Was it taken recently? If you're interested in this sort of thing, you really should contact someone about publishing this photo. The local Tourism Department, the Chamber of Commerce, the folks who own/manage/promote the cathedral, etc. It's just too good an image not to be used somewhere. Or perhaps you've already had it published. Let me know if you pursue this - I'd like to know how it works out.

"Your" and "you're" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"They're", "their", and "there" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"Fare" and "fair" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one. The proper expression is "moot point", NOT "mute point".

Hi Tom, thanks for those kind words, they are appreciated, and to come from a photographer of your calibre, is doubly pleasing.

The deer park, and Fountains Abbey are on National Trust land, (I think the National Trust is a bit like your 'U.S. National Park Service'.)

Unfortunately, and like a lot of British institutions, get quite twitchy when it comes to using images, and part of their terms and conditions read :

'The National Trust does not permit photography or filming at its properties for commercial use or for reproduction in any form'

So although I'm OK about sharing the images on forums such as this, and displaying them on my own website, I couldn't seek to get it published.

Over on our side of the big pond, we sometimes have to put up with such a nanny state, and although the National Trust provides, preserves and protects historic buildings, land etc, I think it sees visitors to their properties as a bit of a nuisance :)

That'll look good mounted to a wall. I used to love reproducing over film enlarger and mount for friends.

Wow! That amazes me. Our National Park Service actually encourages photography, are there are thousands upon thousands upon thousands of images taken in National Parks that are published for profit every year.

I was going to say, but maybe if your photo could be used in one of their brochures, they would want it... since that would help get people to come and visit, but ...

I guess not. Pretty funny stuff! You have a fantastic attraction that they want people to stay away from?!

In retrospect, perhaps things are not as bleak as I first painted, The National Trust is a charitable organisation, and is involved with mainly stately homes/castles ( 300 historic houses and gardens and 49 industrial monuments ).

Whereas we do have 13 National Parks (covering around 10% of the UK's land area), and includes my patch -The Yorkshire Dales, and the Lake District, Snowdonia Cairngorns etc, and photography is a lot more relaxed in these areas, and plenty of images get published (and sold ) from these areas.

In respect of the Deer Park at Fountains Abbey, I understand (from another post) that this place appeared in a TV programme (Naturewatch or suchlike), and the Trust became a bit concerned that the park would be overrun with happy snappers disturbing the deer herds. At least I have the luxury of a long lens, so can keep at such a distance that doesn't spook the deer.
