I have shot models before for my own portfolio with the typical TFCD deals... have the standard model release for showing work, advertising work, etc...

My question is, If I want to sell these images on Alamy or another stock site, Do I need an additional clause in the release? Or is this usually covered? I understand I am probably safe with the editorial usage, but would be interested in commercial usage as well.

Do any of you compensate the model per sale? or is the TFCD enough? I am sure this is a personal issue to some, so that is why I am asking...

Hi,

Look on Alamy... They provide a sample of the release they'd like to see signed. It's sort of slanted toward protecting a stock agency, but there's nothing wrong with that.

The ASMP release that you'll find in the book "Business and Legal Forms for Photographers" is one of the most often recommend releases. Pretty well described, but the book "The Law in Plain English for Photographers" gives you a lot more info on the subject.

Last time I Google "Model Release" I think I remember getting something like 1.6 million sites. I followed the first few pages of links and got a couple dozen samples, which I used along with the ASMP release, Alamy's and a few others I already had to compile my own.

I have the release, like I mentioned. I based it off the Alamy one anyways... I guess what I am asking is that for people that shoot TFCD, does the model expect any further compensation if you are profiting off of that? And if so, is that specifically stated in the release? Such as percentage, etc? Or do you just tell the model, they are SOL if something big becomes out of it?

Some models may, some may not, it is something you need to discuss up front with them and handle accordingly. If at the time of photography you are unsure of how the photos will be used, you might consider including a clause that reads, "for value received and without further consideration". Provide a space to write in an amount, which could be a $1.00, lunch or as high as you choose to go.
