POTN wired release: anyone have issues

I know a lot of members here have this item. I've had mine for about 10 months now, but for the last several months I have been experiencing issues with mine, and it is getting more frequent. I think there may be a break in the main cable somewhere, not in the extension. I frequently have to 're-position' the cable to active that release.

I see on the procameragear site that they have a one year full replacement warranty, but I don't want to go that route if it is something I may have caused.
