Lens help for 50d

I am starting to look at getting a new lens. On a 50d - can you guys offer thoughts (good, bad) on

Tamron 28-75 2.8, Sigma 24-70 2.8 and the Tamron 17-50 2.8

Would like to stay in that $400 range. This would be general purpose use but with about 50% indoor - family etc... I am looking to get the 70-200L 2.8 to shoot outdoor sports.

Have you tried looking at Sigma 18-50 2.8?

imo if you plan to use the 70-200 for outdoors you realy don't need the 2.8. The 4L will do just fine and you can spend the rest on either the 24-70 2.8 or that 17-55 IS

its a great starter walk around lens IMHO.

I shoot into the evening and also like the ability to blur out the obnoxious rec field backgrounds...A couple like the sigma 18-50 - Anybody have thoughts toward the Tamron. I could do the Canon but don't feel general purpose for me is worth over a grand.

I guess it comes down to Siggy vs Tammy. 2.8 gives you the speed and the blur of the background pretty well. You also get the wide angle for the indoor. They're 50/50

In this price range, I also have heard good things about the Tammy 17-50.

Wait for the new sigma 24-70 2.8

I had the 28-75mm and I dealt with the not so wide angles it was a great deal for the money. But you might want to try the 17-50 tamron that would be a good one too.

I have no experience with the other lenses, But I love my
tammy 28-75. It's super sharp for a zoom lens. I would say it's as sharp if not more so then my 85 1.8, just not as fast.

but i have had the Tammy 17-50mm since last July - 2008.

Nice - nice lens. It has been to Taiwan twice. Last time thru 2 typhoons. No i did not stand out in the rain - but there was a lot of humidity when i was out shooting.
Not weather sealed but survived and yields nice images.

+1 for the Tammy 17-50mm as a good option.
