Thank You. John took it at the santuary
Thanks Heather....
Who's holding the monkey in your avi? Looks like a cutie! (the monkey, rather than the human....can't see enough of the human to tell)
I am holding Russell and he is still a cutie.

Please? - Nevermind, just saw a whole one! CUTE! What type of monkey is he? Is there a story to go with it?Diane, He is a Spider Monkey from South America. Russell was confiscated by Animal Control (primates are illegal in Ca in private homes) when his owner was arrested under an outstanding warrant. The Sanctuary is licensed with Animal Control as a holding facility when primates are involved in a case and when the owner went to pick him up, she noticed a baby bottle in the bottom of his cage and opened it - the bottle contained milk with alcohol mixed in (we assume to keep him quiet, as young monkeys can be rather noisy). When the case was settled in court, the sanctuary was awarded custody of Russell. Since he was under a year old, I and some of the other volunteers were allowed to go in his cage and play with him. When I would go in, all he wanted to do was cuddle as you can see. The only problem was what I would look like when I came out, as he was not wearing a diaper. Heather

Awwwwww, that's kind of sad that someone would be so heartless as to mix alcohol into their bottle! That's kind of cool that he wanted to just snuggle you....a compliment, I'd think? Blog

I mentioned to hubby about your comment about the boys going to see trains while we went to the zoo and stuff if we'd travel out there....he liked that idea a lot. Here's hoping we're able to make it work sometime. At LEAST next year, if not the following. I'm fascinated with your images and experiences! Cool. I would love to play tour guide if you make it out this way. Heather

When I go to see him, he likes to pull me close to the chain-link and will give kisses sometimes, but he can still get overzealous and be a little rough (kind of like Kona when he gets excited) How sweet that he still likes to give kisses (does a monkey "kiss" similarly to a human?) but a shame that its harder to interact.... Shortly after Russell came to the sanctuary they discovered he liked Brussel Sprouts. Now everyone at the sanctuary calls them "Russell Sprouts..." LOL, that's cute! Blog

Heather knows the monkeys better than I do... On the rare occasion I go up there, I don't get closer to their cages than arm's length. I don't want my body parts anywhere close to their mouths. The ex-husband of the woman who owns the sanctuary was bitten by one of the Capuchin monkeys there and the resulting infection put him in the hospital. John
