In fact, while the snake talk ensues, I shall perch on my rafter and hum myself to my happy place ;)

really the floor is better...away from clutter...rafters are good places for them to hide and wait for rodents (of course I'd know this)

In the states we have the western and eastern diamondback rattler. The eastern diamondback is the largest and most aggressive (can be deadly because it often injects a massive dose of venom). The timber rattlenake that is more in the swampy south and the mohave rattlesnake (desert areas and the one I was looking for, though the desert also has a speckled rattlesnake). There's also a sidewinder, tiger rattler and blacktail rattlesnake.

Then we've got the cottonmouth...another very dangerous and deadly snake...mostly in the south and eastern U.S. (unsure how deadly)

the coral snakes, which can be all over the U.S....(very deadly)

and the copperhead...which is another southern and eastern snake. (also very deadly)

All of these are venomous and have varying tempers & toxicity.

Ya, you guys have way more neat snakes then us. We have one rattler, bulls, garters and the like, but not much more in Alberta.

Snakes aren't that bad... Look at this sweetie:

Nice.

Guineh wrote in post #7352426 (external link)
Snails aren't all that bad, either:

No they aren't. I love the detail that closeup shots show. Things you don't see without magnification.

You forgot. We need a warning for lotuses, too (not the car, though. Post as many Lotus car pictures you want  )

What about goat eyes?

I wonder what the upgrade to the TS 24L that I have is.

Beats me. I read a little about it this morning, but now I can't even remember where I heard about the new lenses.

Dan's aunt is in surgery. 2 valve replacements, 1 valve repair and 2 bypass happening. They've given her a 50-50 chance of making it through the surgery.

Best wishes for Dan's aunt.

That's great Kody. Does it come with the little carry purse?:p

No we have to purchase that ourselves. lol

In defense of the little dog decision, I don't think it would be fair to have a large, active dog in my small yard. :) One day I'm sure we'll have a Rottweiler for the wife and a Boxer for me. :) Maybe at our next house...

I hope all goes well Lisa. We had a good friend undergo similar, not quite as drastic, surgery recently. Thankfully everything went well. I sincerely hope all goes will in your family's case as well.

Is this another rat snake? I'm unfamiliar with the non-venomous snakes in the US...it's cool looking though. And looks big. It's head actually looks like a venomous snake. Weird.

I'm not sure which species, actually. I didn't exactly go up to it an examine it for fangs.. :) I thought at first it might be a cottonmouth, I think a rat snake as a narrower head.

I wondered about that...I've never seen a cottonmouth but the head is very triangular which is a major indication of a venomous snake.

Thank you everyone. It's really hard because she's a wonderful woman. One of those "glue that holds the family together" types. We're all just in shock because no one (including herself) even knew she was sick.
