Correct me if i'm wrong, is the only way to get HSS up to 1/8000 is with the Radio Poppers? but i'm confused i just read on the strobist's website David said

You can also high-speed sync with a Pocket Wizard, which does not make use of TTL signals, either.

how can i achieve that because i tried anything about 1/250 i will see the shutter creeping up

thanks in advance

You need to use a camera which employs an electronic shutter, like the original 1D and the Nikon D70. "Ordinary" SLR cameras that only use machanical focal plane shutters will not be able to use shutter speeds above max sync speed in this manner.

Thanks PA but don't most cameras have mechanical shutters these days? I have the 50D and the limit is 1/250 so i guess my best bet to get faster shutter speed with off camera flash is to use radio poppers?

1D has a mechanical shutter too, but it only opens at a maximum speed of 1/500. Anything higher is done by turning on the CCD. Canon 1D, Nikon D40, and Nikon D70/D70s are the only cameras you have unlimited sync on when using PWs.

The mechanical shutter speed can probably only go up to 1/250. Max sync speed of 1/500 (with the EX and compatible flashes but higher with non EX flashes) is achieved via the electronic shutter.

Radiopoppers would be your only way to radio control your flashes and use HSS off camera with ETTL. This isnt the same as what is in the link, they are not using ettl HSS, they are simply using a fast shutter speed with regular flashes. which brings you back to what pacace said. RP's + HSS wont do what the strobist blog is describing. A canon 1D will iirc. A shame most of these newfangled cameras cant take advantage of this.
