Sorry if this duplicates info posted already, but I just ran across a post on the Lighting & Studio forum at Fred Miranda with a heads up of a teaser ad on the PocketWizard site indicating a new product intro for 2/16.

Looks like it may be E-TTL based, similar to Radio Poppers...

Hard to see in that picture but it does look like the rumors are true. That appears to be the dedicated transmitter and it certainly does appear to have a hot shoe on top.

The info I got through a contact at MAC group was that there is going to be a dedicated scaled down transmitter (shown in the image on the PW site) and that there is going to be ETTL PW's for both Canon and Nikon. I have no idea of what those units will look like. I suspect it will be something similar to the MultiMax but perhaps with a slightly redesigned and modernized look

Interesting, thanks for that info. Will have to wait and see the price... :)

Robert,

Do I understand correctly that this would be a 2 component system? I wonder then if the unit shown in the teaser could be a personality module with the hotshoe seen in the photo perhaps a mount for an RF transmitter module which could be 'universal', i.e. perhaps used as a basic trigger transmitter unit.

That would be a very smart solution, giving them the ability to offer 3 new products: a Canon personality module, a Nikon module, and an updated RF unit that could be used with these or stand alone essentially as a replacement / update to the current PW transmitters.

There's really no info out yet so anything I could say would be speculation at this point. I think that whatever is released is probably going to be a well thought out system but we'll just have to wait and see.

Again, purely speculation but my guess is that the dedicated transmitter might be slightly less than an existing Plus II and I'm thinking that the ETTL units will be somewhere in between the price of Plus II's and Multi Max's.

I could be completely wrong. ;)

My guess is that it is a transmitter that intercepts the signals from the camera to the flash and transmitts them to the other PW units attached to the remote flashes.(much like the st-e2 does but in radio signals) The hotsoe is for the on camera fill flash. This could be the ETTL we have been waiting for.
I just hope that there will be an adapter of some sort so that we can integrate our older PW's. I don't fancy buying a complete new setup again.

My guess is that they'd be shooting themselves in the foot if it was not completely compatible with existing Pocket Wizards. I can't see that happening. They're too smart for that.
