Here is my selections for the winners of the Red Challenge:

First
Red Reflection by Push to Exit

I don't know how you did this and really hope you share, but I thought this was the best on topic and interesting shot. I really wish it had been centered to make it even stronger.

Second
Raw by Marie

Just really love all the red meat. Loved the contrast between the yellow sign and all that raw meat.

Third
Ready by LainB

A nice peaceful image. I did not like the crop. I wanted to see more of the surrounding than just the boat. I think this would have made the red boat a more powerful image.

Fourth
Laser Light by MegaTrixel

One thing that held this one back from a higher score was the distracting background of your computer. Loved that your face was visible in the shot.

What's the next topic Mr Push?

Thanks Lee, and good job hosting (I’m very nervous about judging). Congratulations to Marie, and Iain, Megatrix, I personally liked dbump and am_pitbull’s too…as well as everyone else for some very excellent crisp photo submissions this week. As for my photo it started with some cooking oil rubbed on the wooden kitchen table and on the apple to get the best reflection possible. I took quite a few at different apertures using the in_camera Vivid setting to get the reddest reflection possible. After that I PS’d some saturation and added a little Guassian blur to the background.

Here is a companion shot that I post processed a bit differently.

The shot was in fact my wife’s idea, I’m just the photographer and post processor

…When I asked her to suggest this weeks topic she replied "Firemen" with a twinkle in her eye (I think she liked txfirebug’s entry the best). I will post the real topic early this evening.

Happy Easter
:D

Thanks Lee,
I feel like I'm first afterall... since I think I'm the first "fourth place" finish. :)

Nice job with the judging! There were many nice pics to choose from.

My pic was pretty much an experiment. I agree, I could have controlled the background more. I was surprised by the concentric circles that appeared. I don't know enough about the physics of light to explain it.

Appreciate your comments, thefly, and others offering their congratulations. My congratulations to pushtoexit - a deserved winner; to Marie, and MegaTrixel for clever thinking. I am delighted to have gained a place in their company. Yes, thefly, I agree the crop could have been made with more of the water.
I've just reluctantly returned from an Easter break at that lovely location on Waiheke Island, Auckland New Zealand and my image doesn't do justice to its beauty ...

Congratulations Pushto exit for your winning entry

and also to IainB, Megatrixel and to all who took part
I loved seeing the shots

t
hank you very much Lee for having to do the job
I did not envy you

I loved the shot you would have posted if you could have entered

about mine
when in the butchers I saw the meat there in front of me... all red and raw
I never planned on taking that shot but had my camera ' in the bag'
I was in another town and they didn't know me

I asked the butcher could I take a shot
I didn't even have to explain why , they came around the front of the counter and lifted the glass cover over the meat
for me

.... without me asking

nice of them.
then asked would I like to take the chops
(DUPLICATE IMAGE)

I did. I took a shot of the chops
but could only use one shot for the comp and as the chops had a bit more creamy flesh to them I picked the steak for the comp.

many thanks to Lee and to the winner , congratulations, and to all who took part
and thanks for the comments

regards, Marie

Congratulations to the winners! Great judging! Sorry I wasn't able to post an entry for this challenge, I have been quite busy for the past two weeks. I did like MegaTrixel's entry except for the background. Now if it were cloned out I bet it would have vied for top spot.

LainB's cropping worked for me. It enhanced the kayak's length, making it sleek and swift even though it's standing still.

Push's apple looks like a work of art. The reflection has a lovely glow, and the medium that comes to mind (at least to me) is encaustic. A lovely effect.

Great pics, all!
