My daughter is planning a trip to Japan and was concerned about charging her lithium-ion battery there. Are there any problems? If so, any remedies?

No, no problems. Her Canon adapter takes anywhere from 100-240V 50-60 Hz (which pretty well covers anywhere with mains power on this planet). Japan, like the US, uses 110V 60 Hz, so even less problem.
