Wouldn't you know it, my AC just decided to go out and they are replacing as I type. New AC cost $6000....hmmmm. Go figure the odds. I keep telling myself I was suppose to have this lens or the AC would have gone out a week earlier....lmao! Could have bought the 300 2.8....grrrrr!!! Brittany

The reason for doing it is that it has a built in quick release plate. This eliminates the need for a separate lens plate and the additional bulk/weight.
