I've heard that Canon might be introducing a new, cheaper (60D?) Full Format.
Just wondering if anyone's heard anything substantial at all about this or if it's only my subconscious dreaming and playing tricks on me?

Post this in the Rumors sub-group and you may get a bite:)!

And, seriously, that's about the only place where it will "belong" because Canon (and the others) doesn't make such "plans" known to the public until they are good and ready:)!

If it were a cheaper full frame, it would not be labeled as a 60D, but rather as a 6D. The XXD line is a 1.6 crop sensor line.

That being said, I doubt it as the 5D2 is already their cheaper full frame sensor. Making a full frame sensor is pretty expensive, and why would they want to poach their 5D2 sales?

Oh I wansn't aware that there was "rumor" sub-group, think I got the answer I was looking for already though.
To be honest I see your point about poaching sales didn't actually think of this before, but as I said I heard it as a rumor so probably little truth in it at best to start with :)

edit: any moderator feel free to delete the topic to nót spread unnecessary rumors

this would be a dud rumor. canon wouldn't release a cheaper FF sensor as they will want to ride the 5d mark ii for a good solid year before doing any such undercutting release. if new competition enters the market, then they will probably be forced to do so, however that requires a significant amount of resources in capital.

Also keep in mind that a stripped down version of the 5D2's bells and whistles, but yet retaining a full frame sensor already exists. It's called the 5D

Considering the difference in age, technologies and the fact that the 5D has been discontinued, I have to call foul on that one.

That's my point. It took Canon almost 4 years to come out with a successor to the 5D. Why would they possibly waste any more R&D budget on another camera that would poach their 5D2 sales?

Also, keep in mind that full frame is targeted at advanced amateurs and professionals. Since Canon makes so much of their money from the rebel series and other crop cameras, what would be to gain from making a cheaper full frame that could also start poaching business from the other side as well? If you make a cheap full frame that retails for $1500, you're getting pretty close to Canon's higher end prosumer bodies, like the 50D. It would just make no sense for them to do this. They introduced the 5D as a cheaper alternative to the 1Ds, and it was extremely successful for them, but at the cost of selling 1Dses. Why would they want to introduce something for a market segment where there is no need?

They already have a cheap alternative, it's called the 5d. You can get used ones for the price of a 50d kit, and new ones for less than 1800 last i checked

I don't hate macs or OSX, I hate people and statements that portray them as better than anything else. Macs are A solution, not THE solution. Get a good desktop i7 with Windows 7 and come tell me that sucks for photo or video editing.
