Well I finally got a chance to use my 100mm macro 2.8 that I got for a steal from a circuit city ($283USD BNIB).

Let me just begin by saying wow! This is by no means easy.....at all. especially down at 1:1. I love bees so I was trying all day to find some and when I did just getting the camera on one without hitting anything else was difficult.

I tried to make all my shot at 1:1 and they probably look soft due to noise reduction....... I had the iso at 1600 because at 400 or less I had to be at f2.8ish and yeah I was barely able to get the camera on the little bees to begin with.

I have a new found respect for what the macro guys and gals on here do. I can only imagine what it's like with the mpe-65 :p.

Composition and lightling all stayed at home today.... My only goal today was to simply take a picture.

Well here they are....... My first attempts.

Doing well - Bees are one of the hardest subjects to nail- always on the move. Made a bit easier if you use flash in M mode. More light and it helps freeze motion.

Trust me your first attempt at bees is way better than mines with my new 100 macro, but I am going to follow Brian's tip tomorrow and use a flash and I will see what happens.

Thanks guys, this was all in manual but man it's tricky.....

When I finally had one "in my sights" it would buzz away so had to get it within view, tweak the focus a tad and then snap a shot....not easy at all.

I will have to practice on slower creatures ;)
