You should read about the invention of the Volkswagen, directly under Hitler's orders. He even suggested the beetle shape.

The original car, very few of which were produced, and all of which were used by high party officials, was the KdF Wagen ("KdF" stood for "Kraft durch Freude" [Strength through Joy]). The ones in the picture are undoubtedly KdF Wagens, most likely the VW39 models.

The presence of the KdF Wagens dates those particular pictures to not earlier than 1939. History dates the pictures to not later than mid 1942.

The VW was one of the very few good things that regime accomplished.

Another was the Autobahn. Beautiful highways in a terrible time. But then, they were nice roads for the Allies in the final days of the war.

Another interesting thing about the early VWs was the role the British played in resurecting the car after the war. Read the history (Google will help there), and you'll never think of the humble little VW Beetle the same way again. It really was "The Car that Saved Germany!"

Many can be dated before May 1941 as they contain Rudolf Hess and some before July 1934 as they contain Ernst Röhm

You know I never get over that fact that the ****'s loved that swastika, man they put it on everything. I guess they had a fear of losing brand identity.

But it was stolen from india and rotated slightly....

A truly frightening period of recent history.
