I didn't think I would get to watch this year as it was Valentine's day. To my surprise, my GF suggested we go... Hoorraaayyyy!!! There was quite a turnout. Maybe cycling will one day take off in the US.

Being new to digital and to anything automatic, I got a little carried away bursting pictures. I quickly learned 3 things. First, I need a lot of practice panning. It's harder than I thought. Second, I need to quit stalling and make up my mind on a lens with some reach. I only brought a 50mm 1.8 but was dreaming for more. I didn't have time to hijack one of my dad's lenses... Third is to buy more CF cards.

Here's one to get started. I still have a ton of pictures to go through and will add a few once I get through them. No PP-just resized and slightly cropped. C&C is always welcomed.

XSi w/50mm @ 5.6 1/160th +1/3rd

After looking at this shot in DPP, the picture seems a bit too bright and some sharpening would help. Any opinions one way or the other? It was really cloudy during the ride so getting the right exposure was challenging for me. Practice practice practice!

I hope these 3 get a hold of the dirtball that stole Lance's TT bike on Saturday night. Damn thieves...

Your panning looks pretty darn good! The first shot is awesome! If you think certain areas are too bright, it was be an easy photoshop fix (assuming you have it?). You could burn the bright areas pretty quickly and easily.

Sweet shots!

Wow, thanks for the positive feedback! I really appreciate it. I had been a bit hesitant to post much as I didn't think I was quite 'there' yet. There are so many incredibly talented people on this forum. It's quite an honor to get some positive feedback. I'll not be so shy about posting in the future.

I dont know why, but I have become addicted to watching bike racing since Lance won his first tour! I don't ride bikes except for the occasional recreational ride, and NEVER anything close to a road bike...I just love it,

thanks for posting these great pics! Wish I could be a photog on the side of the road for one of these events...
