At this point, I've no idea why. I upgraded the utility, then flashed the firmware. With the flexTT5 turned on and connected to the computer I can use all the tabs and adjust hypersync timing, etc. You may have to call the Mac Group and ask for help.

did that. still everything is all grayed out. cant get into any of the settings to adjust hypersync etc..

I had this happen at first.

Reboot(just in case)... then, without the Mini/Flex plugged into USB turn it on. Connect it to the USB... then open the utility.

Once I did that it worked - and after that first time for whatever reason it is 100%.

Still no fix for the Clipping at 1/300-1/640 with a 5d MKII?

Sucks to have to bypass that entire Shutter range.

***UPDATE***
I posted above regarding an issue I'm having with the 550ex and the FlexTT5's. After several phone calls to and from PW, I was told that the engineers had a 550ex on the flexTT5 and it was working. The difference was in the setup. Mine was connected to the FlexTT5 via a promaster off camera cord. I removed the cord from the equation and the 550ex works. It emits the E-TTL pre-flash, and moves smoothly from hypersync into high-speed sync. I haven't tested out the A:B ratios, but I don't expect to encounter a problem with that.
Once I knew that the 550ex would work when mounted directly on the FlexTT5 hotshoe, I tried moving it off the unit again, but this time using a Canon OC-E2 off camera cord. Again, No high speed sync available above 1/500 sec. I forwarded that info to PW and received a call that their engineers were able to repeat my problem by using a canon off-camera cord.
So at the moment, I now know how to configure the 550ex so I can use it to get around the RF interference the 580exII generates and PW will be working on figuring out why the 550ex doesn't behave when used with an off-camera cord.
On a lighter note, (at least for me), one of my three 550ex units was more crippled than the other two when connected to the off-camera cord. It now functions properly when mounted on the FlexTT5 hotshoe.

Hope this helps those of you that might be on the fence or also use off-camera cords. Bear in mind; the unusual part of this is the 580exII doesn't mind that there is a cord between it and the FlexTT5.

I was wondering if you could explain why you need an off camera cord with the Flex units. I read this a couple of times and it's not sinking in for me.

According to PW, with the exception of the 550ex, canon's various speedlites emit radio frequency interference that does interfere with the FlexTT5's ability to recieve the controlTL signal. If you need to maximize the distance from transmitter to receiver, their recommendation is to use an off-camera cord with a ferrite choke installed to separate the flash and the FlexTT5.

For other configuration options I'd recommend you download the pdf manual from PW and review it.

Mine are still on order, but I was thinking I'd use the MINI on camera, with the camera cord on that up to the on-camera flash bracket, so the flash will always be on top of the lens. At least I'm hoping this will work.

I do that with a FlexTT5 on the camera. Works fine. The mini will just give you a bit more clearance than I get.

Did an impromptu test this morning. I was able to fire a 550ex with the FlexTT5 at well over 150 ft. I don't plan on shooting at that distance so I'd say it will now meet my needs.

Thanks. This sounds a little quirky. I sure hope they fix that with the new firmware. Also, does anyone have any word whether PW started shipping again?

According to Rob Galbraith's write-up of the new firmware:

When the new PocketWizards were used on top of an EOS-1Ds Mark III, remote flashes would occasionally not fire, or misexpose the frame. Plus, if the camera was set to a high shutter speed, it would sometimes drop to its X-sync speed unexpectedly. This has been fixed. (A similar shutter speed shift could also occur with the EOS-1D Mark III, 5D Mark II and possibly other models, and the shift should now no longer occur with these models also).

I am still getting the shutter speed shift with my 5D Mark II. Anyone else seeing this?

With regard to the bold text, I am having this EXACT problem with my 1DsIII. I have not upgraded the firmware yet but will absolutely do that now that I know there is new firmware. Man i thought I was doing something wrong, like the order of turning everything on and off.

I just read/skimmed all 37 pages of this thread (yikes!) and still have a couple questions.

Can the FlexTTL be used to trigger a flash manually in conjunction with speedlights in ETTL mode on other FlexTTLs?
Example setup:
-MiniTTL on camera,
-580EX II on FlexTT5 on ETTL mode
-480 EX II on FlexTT5 on ETTL mode
-Vivitar 285HV on FlexTT5 in manual mode

Would the vivitar fire for the preflash at its full manually-set strength? Or (hopefully) not at all? In this kind of setup i would probably be using the manual flash for a background light, or something unrelated to whatever the ETTL flashes are lighting.

I would rather purchase a FlexTTL rather than one of the older pocket wizards because I figure that for a little bit more cash I'll have extra functionality in case I grab another speedlite later on.

---
The second question is regarding ratios and the need of an ST-E2. I would obviously prefer to not have to purchase the ST-E2, but I definitely want to be able to work with ratios. I also don't want to be restricted to keeping my 580 EX II on-camera. So, is this possible?
-MiniTTL on camera
-FlexTTL with 580 EX II on master mode with ratio set at 1:2 A:B
-FlexTTL with 480 EX II on slave mode in group B

I read in a previous post something about setting ratios by putting the 580 EX II on the camera, setting the ratios, then being able to take it off and use it remotely? I'm not clear on why/if that would work correctly.

Is anyone having hard time with mounting the FlexTT5 to a stand via the hotshoe? I'm trying to mount the Flex to my Impact umbrella stand's hotshoe mount and the Flex won't slide onto it because it's too tight. Thx :)

BTW- I'm using the Mini on my Canon 50D to trigger a Flex/ 580EX II. Indoors I'm getting consistent 25-30 feet range. Then I placed the Flex/580EX II in another room 25 feet away and it still triggered consistently. Finally, ETTL without line of sight! :)

Also, the Mini on my 50D makes for wonderfully compact setup.
