Hello All,
A big hello to all the POTN members. After drooling at a lot of cameras and equipment and dreaming about taking good photographs, I have finally been gifted a Canon EOS 40D!!!.
Now since I received it as a gift through Amazon, how can I buy extended warranty and accidental damage cover. Is it good to buy it through Amazon or do you suggest any other better insurance policy. I am not sure if I am covered for accidental damage cover under my home insurance.
All help will be highly appreciated.
Cheers.
Raj.

WELCOME. I'm not a fan of ext. warranties myself. Yes, check your homeowner's policy for coverage.

I'm also not too keen on extended warranties, they're just a gimmick to squeeze more cash out of you.

Homeowners or tenants policy is better. An extended warranty gives you no recourse for theft, accidental damage or even, in the case of my policy, "mysterious disappearance".
You are covered for the value you state on your policy rider, i.e., if my 40D gets stolen or something, I get $1199.

Yeah, look into the homeowners policies, much better coverage. The ext warentees rarely cover anything that has a high probability of happening, such as theft or "neglectful" damage

I have not bought an extended warranty of any kind for many, many years and have 'saved' an awful lot of money that would otherwise have been wasted.
I figure that if something goes wrong I just get it fixed or buy a new one with the money I've not wasted.

These things are a rip-off IMO.

For insurance against theft or accidental damage look at home contents insurance or specialist camera insurance as they will cover you far better.

I'll add that I don't believe in them unless they are from the OEM and are cars. As cars are evil money pits, and must be kept at bay with warranty-swords.
