The new Control TL system.

Two new products: FlexTT5 and MiniTT1.

I have no clue what the difference is between the two except Flex is a transciever and MiniTT1 is just a hot-shoe transmitter. I THINK.
Some one care to explain?

And add some tidbits about the pluses of ETTL other than high speed sync? 'Cuz right now, I'm sticking with my Plus IIs and Multi MAXs...

ND Filters take care of the need for high speed shutter in order to use fast apertures, so I really don't see the use (unless you're in changing settings like weddings and automatic settings become useful...)

in essence u would use the mini on your camera and the flex on the flash,or u could buy 2 flexes because the flex can be a tranceiver or transmitter.

the mini is only a transmitter. also they are compatable with the plusII's and multimax's.

Essentially radio TTL. If it works, this should surpass Nikon CLS which I think is superior to Canon's. This could be a great off camera solution.

i'm considering switching to nikon for their flash system.

should i reconsider and just purchase these instead?
seems more cost effective to just get nikon...

What do you think/hope the Nikon flash system will do that the Canon system won't?

Nikon CLS is still IR and has the same drawbacks that the Canon system has when you are in bright sunlight or not in line of sight - Pocket Wizards, Radio Poppers, Skyports, Cybersynchs, Cactus etc are all radio solutions that all aim to overcome the IR limitations in different ways.

It looks like there are some teething problems with the new Pocket Wizards and some of the Canon flash units due to RF interference.

The most cost effective solution is probably some radio triggers and some manual flash units and shooting with fully manual flash - it's also the way you'll get the most control.

does anyone knows if these little radio triggers will support my EOS 1D(ETTL).
Pocketwizard always talkes about E-TTLII.

Do i need a lightmeter when using the Multimax?

Greetings

Flo

If you are using the new PWs with 580EX IIs, can you use the new High Speed Sync to shoot at say 1/8000, even if you want to use the flashes in Manual mode? Sometimes, I prefer manual over using ETTL.

If this doesn't make sense, it's because I'm a noob and I apologize.

Sweet shot! If I didn't keep hearing about how unreliable the PW mini & flexs are, I would totally buy some :/
Bit underexposed though, no? Awesome capture nonetheless - the hand, the clouds, the frozenness, haha!

I got my hands on some of the new PWs (one mini and two flexes/flexi??).

Here is my questions. I used to control the canon 580EX II with another 580EX II that was on the camera's hotshoe. When doing this with my 40D, I was able to use the camera's menu system to make changes to the remote/slave flash in manual mode to adjust the intensity of the flash.

With the new PWs, I am not longer able to use the camera's menu system and make changes to the slave flash from my camera in manual mode. It appears that I have to go to the individual slave flashes and make the manual changes on the flash. Also, there doesn't appear to be a way to use ratios. I have to say that I'm kind of bummed about this. Am I doing it right?

I thought I read somewhere else that I'd have to put another 580EX II in the hotshoe of the mini in order to use ratios for the other slave flashes. That is a very costly and cumbersome solution. Who wants a large honkin' 580EX II on their mini, mounted on their camera, only to control the other flash settings. What a waste. Is there no better solution? Can/will this be fixed with a firmware update? If not, I wish the mini had an lcd that had controls on it for making these adjustments.
