Chimping a Better way on the 50D?

I have a G10 and the 50D. Since the G10 is basically a live view controlled interface, I know the 50D can be to, I was wondering if folks know how to set up the after shot display to show the focus point at 5 or 10 times magnification without having to manually zoom in? In live view it can.

What I would like to do is this....

Take photo and the rear display would put the photo up and show the focus point 5 or 10 times magnified in it's own square image like the G10, with the histogram, all displayed OVER the full photo or a black background my choice. This would come up automatically with my set time of 2,4,8 seconds or full on until I press it off. I would also like to choose the amount of numerical info, like I now can by pressing the info button and have it be the permanent configuration every time it displays after the photo is snapped. Without having to be in live view.

This would allow me to verify all the important details I want, in a quick glance and then I can retake it or move on to the next photo.

Can this be done? If so, how?

If not would it be something others would like to see Canon do in a software upgrade?

Now that we have such a nice high res display it sure would be nice to put it to better use. I mean the G10 in live view can but it is not as nice as the 5D2 or the 50D.

Thanks in advance.

In theory yes. As it it's always in a "live view" mode.

To the OP, no you cannot do what you are asking. You can however turn on AF points showing, and zoom in your self. Sucks, but then again, I only chimp the Histogram.

I know, I was mocking the fact that all P&Ss have de facto live view...

Speaking of chimping, with Live View you can also turn on a live histogram -- in other words chimp your exposure before you take the shot. I don't know what the particular 50D setting is, but with my 1D3 you set C.Fn IV-16 to 1 (turn on Live View Exposure Simulation). For those who use Live View (or who don't yet because they didn't know about this feature) it could be great!

Tony I saw this too and thought it would be and is cool. It is lost on my wife but that is what the P is for. :)

So my hopes would be that others here might see what I am asking and know that it, IMO, could be do-able and all in a software upgrade.

To be honest there are quite a few times when I thought I had a good sharp picture only to get it up on the computer and been bummed by the so so focus or OOF.

IMO it would rock to have the pic snapped and the rear LCD pop up a histogram and a square image at 5 or 10 times mag of the focus point so as to offer a view of what turned out or not.

This would always be what happens after a snap is taken. It would allow a fast look, where as now we must push buttons multiple times which if one were only shooting fixed landscapes or the like is fine but anything happening as in modeling and action the flow is lost. Fast action this would not help. In that case it's blast away and hope for the best. :)

This could help to offset the Canon desire to limit their lesser cameras to fewer AF points. Sort of a meeting of the minds half way.

I saw this for the 5D2 so I looked in my OM but it seems to have eluded me.

If I understand you correctly when I go and look at the pic I just took I can see in the image the red square of the AF point and then using zoom and the toggle enlarge that area in the LCD?

If so, any help how to set this up would be greatly appreciated.
