I knocked my kit lens to the top of my trunk the other day, and the af started to crunch and make strange noises, than i switched it to MF, turned it around a bit and it 'klicked' back in place... but the next day I couldn't leave it alone, and now it's busted...

the af always feel the same as in MF, without any resistance to twisting and turning... did anyone ever try to open his kit-lens, and document it so I would now where to put everything back? also, anyone got ideas what to do? it seems to me that something just fell out of it's place and that's what causing the problems, not the lens being broken itself

Buy a lens reverser, you now have a nice (not great) manual macro lens. If you're budget doesn't allow an upgrade to a better lens you may also luck out and find a better copy of the kit lens on e-bay. That's what I did, best accident I ever had.

I probably am going to replace it with a 2.8 short zoom, probably a tamron or sigma, but the diy freak in me still wants to tear this one apart and fix it... it's probably just a gear anyway :D
