Does anyone know the dynamic range (in stops) of the 50D?

According to an article I read in Digital SLR, the dynamic range of most crop DSLR's is around 7. The authors camera was a Nikon D2H and it only did 6 stops.

Do full frame camera's have better dynamic range? Because of the larger light receptors on the larger sensor sizes?

Thanks.

PS: HDR IS COOL!!!!!!

Thanks bfreas.

Now, can someone enlighten me? Is ev the same as stops? I gather it is.

So, from this quote: "The EOS 50D produced a fairly consistent dynamic range of about 8.5 EV from ISO 100 to 1600 dropping to 7.6 EV at ISO 3200 and to a minimum of 5.5 EV at ISO 12800...". This camera has 8.5 stops in dynamic range. Cool. Is this a standard test? According to the magazine article most crop sensor DSLR's cap at 8 stops. Is this a much better camera? Or was his information gathered from a different test?

I guess it's a mutt point really. Just interested that's all. I mean, I ALREADY have the body.

Dynamic range can be confusing and I think variable, depending on the ambient light. For instance, on an overcast day at ISO 400, most 1.6x crop bodies can shoot 10 or 12 stops in between a full black frame and a full white, blown out frame. Maybe more. Is that dynamic range, or are we just counting the marks on the scale seen in the viewfinder/LCD screen? Or is it simply the range between the lightest and darkest part of any particular scene. Or the range of the sensor when set a certain ISO/shutter speed/aperture?
