Tempted: 35L

I'm tempted to sell my 28/1.8 and 50/1.4 to pick up the 35L. The problem is my 28 and 50 are great lenses already. But I think my MKIII would shine so well with the 35 L, and the 35mm focal length would be a sort of hybrid of the 28mm and 50mm for me.

What do you guys think?

You guys think I'd miss the extra 9mm on the 28? (have the 11-16 tokina, right now) What about the 15mm reach of the 50/1.4 has on it (my next lens up is the 70-200/2.8 IS)

Prediction says,

you will sell them both, buy 35L ---then buy back the 50 1.4 ... Thats what I did

I had the EXACT same two lenses, I loved them, and I thought the EXACT same thing about the 35L being a perfect (albeit much more expensive) hybrid/intermediary between them. Oh boy, was I wrong. The 35L didn't last a week, I didn't like the focal length at all - not wide enough like the 28, and not long enough like the 50. I returned it after massive disappointment.

I say keep the two primes, especially because you already like them .

Ouch! Perry has to suck the fun out of everything. Get the 24L and 50L--------done.

You got two leg right?

The 35L is the better lens, but it came down to focal length, price, size and weight. I couldn't justify over $1k for a lens that I didn't like, even though it had very good optics. 28, 50, 85, 200 are my favourite focal lengths I think. I don't miss the 50 1.4 much, I like my Sigma 50 1.4 more, but the 28 1.8 is a lens I do miss.

Granted I was on full frame though, I like the 35L more on the 1.3x crop, but again, I didn't feel good paying that much for that lens given the equally fast 50mm options out there.

"Foot zoom" is not a legit argument. Perspective is entirely a function of camera position and distance, so 'foot zooming' changes your perspective, necessarily. If I wanted to get really close, I found I wanted a little wider than 35, but if I wanted to shoot from a perspective flattering for portraits, I found the 35mm too wide.

Let me know if you decide to sell that 50 1.4

I absolutely LOVE the focal length of the 35L on 1.3x. Absolutely perfect semi-wide normal. The lens is fantastic, among the very best I've used. Sharp straight from f/1.4 with beautiful color, contrast and skin tones. At f/1.8, it puts the 28/1.8 to shame. I also find it significantly better than the 50 f/1.4 (and a much better FL on 1.3x).

Probably my favorite lens right now.

Sold it last week, I just wasn't using it enough between the 24 & 50. So I sold my 24L & 35L and bought the 24L II and 45 TS-E.
