Hi,

I just bought a 5D mark 2 a few weeks ago. Haven't used it that much, mainly shooting indoors with a large aperture.
I bought a macro lens 2 days ago and i noticed (because of the much smaller aperture used for macro) there were a lot of dust/dirt specks in the image. More than my original 5D ever had!
When i noticed the problem i shot a blue sky at F18... horror.
This HAS to be a fabrication error by Canon, because i didn't use it that much and only changed lenses a few times very quickly indoors. I tried with my rocketblower, but no succes. I haven't touched the sensor.

What should i do? Will canon take their responsibility for it?
This was a freakin' expensive camera

Here is that example at F18:

Dust happens. These cameras are shipped all the way from Japan, so you should expect some dust. Your best bet is to pick up a Giottos Rocket Blower and a Copperhill Cleaning kit and be done with it. You will need both of those items in the future anyway.

I know it happens, i've had the original 5D (aka the dustmagnet)!
But this camera is new and i've never seen this much dust in any of my cameras in the past.
I have tried with my giottos rocket blower, but no succes at all.

If you don't want to wet clean it and you have a Canon service center in your country, I would send it in for service. If you bought it locally they may swap it out but another from the same batch might have the same gunk.

That probably isn't dust but rather grease or factory gunk or dust stuck on with those things. You can see some smearing of an oily film in the upper left as well.

I had a 5DClassic for a year and never had to use more than a blower so this is definitely something stickier. If you don't want to or don't feel you should have to clean it, send it in. I'm sure if you complained politely, but firmly, they should clean it for free since it is so new.

I have wetcleaned in the past, but since i ruined the sensor of my 5D1 i'm a bit scared of it. It was not my fault and everything was repaired under warranty, but still...

update: canon repair service will clean it for free.
