I also like that it's considerably smaller than the 2.8 wide angle zooms. I know people usually say "why would you buy a 1.4 lens if you don't shoot it wide open" but wow the sharpness at 1.8 blows me away. 1.4 can give you almost a large format look close up, but if you aren't close to your subject it's mostly just too soft looking for me. It's definitely the best "food" lens I've used because I can use it in any light, and it focuses amazingly up close. I am noticing it's incredibly hard to focus at brighter apertures when the subject isn't super close to the lens, but you can always stop down and use a flash if needed. the 24L is really nice on the crop because I love using my 35L on the full frame!
