In my search for a starter full frame Canon I came across this 1Ds classic body. Seems to be clean 70K clicks on it 4 batteries cables ect.
I am actually looking for 5D MKI but since both are in the similar megapixel range and used the 1Ds price is cheaper than used 5D for me in Toronto Canada, I was wondering what would be the differences in between two. Other than the weight and weather sealing of course.

If you value high ISO IQ at all get the 5D. The 1Ds only goes up to ISO1250, the 5D goes up to 3200, and is perfectly usable.

I would personally choose the 5D over the 1Ds.

Heh, augenblick, have you posted in our Torontonians thread yet in the POTN member activities forum?

Anyway, I just checked CL and there's a 5D going for CAD$1500, which is just $100 more than the only 1Ds I see there.

that is alot for the 1Ds Classic isnt it? You can get a 1D IIN for that price if you look or bargain hard enough.

Thanks guys. 1 think I can get the 1Ds for $1250 but the weight is my biggest concern.
I will join the Torontonians thread as well.
Say if I buy a refurb 5D from Adorama or B&H photo, do you think I will be charged GST & PST?
Many thanks

Yes you will be charged tax as it goes through customs . Gotta love this place. And if weight is a concern, the 5D is the better choice by far.

Live the legend, get the 5D ;).

Hit the gym, and get the 1Ds - unless you do a lot of high-ISO shooting.

One last question. Is the viewfinder on 1Ds as large as 5D? This is one of the feautures that is important to me since my eye sight is weakening.
I had used 20-30-40D so far and the best for me was 5D viewfinder. Nice and clear

I believe the 5D has a larger finder then the 1Ds, but don't quote me on that...
