Just did a quick search on B&H. It shows all versions of this lens as Discontinued (including the Mk II).

Anybody know anything?

I think they meant "out of stock" rather than "discontinued" on version II. After all, humans operate the site. It does say "please call for more information" so maybe you should do that if you're interested in the lens.

The original version is most likely discontinued. Someone probably screwed up and marked the II version as discontinued as well.

I'm not sure what exactly is holding you back from buying the Mark II so I can borrow it. Have you considered my feelings in all of this?

I need a 70-200 or 100-400 for my whale watching trip in a month or two; how about one of those?

btw, I really have your best interests at heart when I make these suggestions.

Which would you prefer?

Need a TC too?

I'm good with my 1.4; not sure which I'd prefer as I've never been. Both?

I'm sure its not discontinued (the MarkII). Mark I is.

Re availability of Mark II, I was at a large Canon pro dealer this morning, typicall they will have multiple copies of L Primes in stock.

They are still waiting for their first delivery of the 24L MkII.

Their explanation was that Canon had some problems with the first batch and had recalled.

This was a UK dealer.

Y'all better grab it quick! (assuming you don't mind grey market)

So far, I've been told, "When pigs fly."

According to Helen, they lost their mole inside Canon and are no longer privileged with the information of how many lenses and when they'll be shipped (to them). So my guess is when Canon employees stop making babies, that's when they'll be back assembling lenses. :(

In the meantime, I'm trying to find a pig to throw off the tallest building in Los Angeles.

^ oh my, I assumed, though it was taking a while, Canon would at least be able to tell their dealers when they will be shipping glass.

Its a weird time to be a canon lens buyer atm. Backorders/horrendous price rises:rolleyes:

Still at least you benifit from the pre-order price;)

Its bound to have gone up when it hits the streets, way things are going

The Mark II is also discontinued. Canon will be announcing a Mark III version shortly, which boasts even better corner sharpness, a double red ring and a built-in phaser weapon with technology taken from the Starship Enterprise.

Just wait, it'll be just my luck that due to the current global economic meltdown, they'll end up lowering the price to like $1200.

And the Mk4, the lens will be completely anodized red.
