:oops:So..being the noob that I am..I failed to follow the cardinal rule of editting and that is..to save a copy of the picture BEFORE making changes. Used GIMP to edit a few pictures and they turned out fantastic (for me anyway) and, apparently, I saved them as PNG files and not JPG files. Subsequently..they are really really small. Can I revert them to original size and format without losing image quality or am I dead meat? Flame me as is required but any help I can get would be awesome.

If you saved them as PNG files the original jpg's must still be stored untouched and should be available to you.

I will have to search my files and see if they exist then. Thank you.

Hmm..does not appear the originals are still there..perhaps the new file replaced the old one after edit took place?

when you save as a different format, the original is untouched

Another odd thing..I posted a few other images where I made the same mistake and they don't appear as small..and when loaded onto, say, Facebook..they appear quite normal. I'm looking (not a lot of pic files yet so searching is pretty easy) and not finding the originals.

Sounds like this needs professional help (or maybe I need it). Scoured through them all and there doesn't appear to be any in there. As I said..I think I may have overwritten then. Looking like a lost cause unfortunately.

the only way they can be overwritten is, if they were JPG, you saved as a JPG, when you save as PNG you are changing the file format and the JPG will still be a JPG

Okay..so..in the event that I do not have the originals anywhere..the question still stands. Can I take a really small PNG and make it look right? Thinking without original resolution the answer is no

Try a search for the filename (on all your disks)...

What do you mean by get really really small ? Saving an image in png format does not make it smaller.
