Like other IS lenses on DSL, do I need to turn off the IS function while using my G10 on a tripod?

According to the G10 manual, yes. On page 86 it says "When you shoot with the camera attached to a tripod, we recommend you set [IS Mode] to [Off]".

Thank you, had not read my manual yet.

I hadn't read that part yet either, but given that I got a really nice tripod setup yesterday for my G10 your question prompted me to look it up.

TIP: You can download a .pdf of the manual from the Canon support site. Then it's easy to search it for stuff like "tripod" and find the answer. That's what I did. I think it would be harder to find that info with just the hard copy manual (and mine is back in the envelope and in the box with all the other stuff that came with the camera I'm not using).
