I was in Klamath Falls, Oregon this past weekend for the Winter Wings Festival (ran into BradM there!).

Here are a few shots from the weekend:

Great shots -- love the sign in the last one but am just amazed by the shots of the flocks.

I haven't been in Klamath in Feb before. Looks like that's the time to be there.

I think you should always fill the frame with birds.

Oh, wait... never mind.

Nice shots.

Thanks. That shot of the flocks represents about 1/5 of the total flock, I'd estimate.

DEFINITELY the time to go! Snow Geese, Tundra Swans, Bald Eagles are the most prolific then.

Hello, TD!

We just visited Klamath last earlier this week, and we didn't miss out completely by not getting there earlier. Still thousands upon thousands of Snow Geese. And Speckelbellies. And Pintails, Shovelers, etc.

It was a great trip for waterfowl, although the birds of prey were notably absent.

Hey Tom, glad to hear there are still lots of birds are still there. The Pelicans should be starting to arrive very soon. That's worth a trip as well. I think they're there until late summer.

Wonderful series here! I'm hoping to create my first images of snow geese this spring as well.

Thanks Stephen. I find it quite interesting that the Greater White Fronts (for the most part) didn't fly when the eagle spooked the rest of the flock.

Anybody have any information or theories on why that might be?

Chris,

The pelicans were there already! We arrived Saturday evening (the 28th), when we saw a group of 5 on the Oregon side. By the time we left on Tuesday, we saw pelicans in several of the refuge areas, with one group numbering 15. By now they should all be there. They're large and relatively easy to photograph. Once I download & process some images I'll post them.

Tom
