Is it normal for the prices of lenses to go up around this time of year?

I do not know that but I did notice that prices of canon lenses went up lately, market went down, prices of lense went up. Now I have to wait for market to go up so price of lense will go down.

Don't know about you guys in the US but over here, CANON prices took a massive hike upwards around three weeks ago. As an example, the 300mm f/2.8 L IS went up from £3000 to £3750 during a single day on one UK dealer's website. Everything else CANON has also gone sky high recently - don't know whether that was a Euro-economic / currency thing, manufacturers annual price rise or both.

Not happy!

Alan

I've been buying and returning copies of the Sigma 30mm f1.4 and I've noticed that the price at Amazon went up $40 overnight, but the next day it dropped by about the same amount on B&H. Not sure what's up with that.

Yup, prices around the world are going up by up to 30% due to the value of the Yen - Canon, Nikon, Sony, all the Japanese manufacturers. This has been well documented and has begun already.

 Not unusual with Sigma. I'm gonna send my 50 1.4 in at some point for tweaking and the game of "Roll-the-Sigma" will begin for me .

Man...I'm never buying another Sigma lens ever again.

Oh yeah, a blast. It got even better when Amazon started sending me refunds for $0! I did get it straightened out, but it's been a pain.

Yes, this makes sense...but what I don't understand is why isn't the same for other electronic goods from Japan - like lcd's and blu-ray players, etc? They have not risen, as far as I know.

What are you looking to buy? Do you need it now or can you wait? Canon usually runs a rebate special in May, it might be worth waiting if you can.

Canon is having $200 rebates for buying camera, body, flash all at once. Could it be they are rising prices to offset this rebate?
