hi there, basically I've been thinking about journalism for a LONG time and thought that I could combine photography as I know most free lance journalists are expected now to be able to take photos anyway- basically are there any photojournalists or even journalists here who could give me some advice on how to start? I'm in my last year of school and looking at university but might be taking a year out for general work experience, but I have long breaks so would love to 'dip' into journalism if I could, though I know that might sound quite childish and even arrogant as I know the job is REALLY competitive...

So is there anyone here who can give me any advice or even where I might get some work experience... I'm assuming there's not much point in applying to big newspapers as they will probably want student actually studying journalism...?

Maybe small local papers?

Or could I even shadow some people for a day or something...? one of my friends did that and he said it was amazing and so much help...?

Thanks for any help,

Richard

You rang?
what do you want to know?
Best thing to do is ring your local big papers (large cities) best thing you do. But i hate to disappoint you but very few places do PhotoJourno only way your going to to PhotoJourno is if you go and do agency work which isnt really something you can Work Experience on, even then its a dyeing breed.

If you wanna go into it full time look into the NCTJ course in Photojournalism

Any questions dont be afraid to ask
