Now that Canon has press releases concerning their new 17 and 24 TS-E lenses, does this mean updated versions of the 45 and 90 are not far away? I'd love to see the new "TS revolving system" in the 45 and 90.

Not necessarily soon, but probably at some point.

Seeming these lenses aren't saleable as even Super Telephoto lenses I do not see Canon aggressively upgrading them. I also do not see them being phased out either as Nikon has competing FL's.

it just seems odd that they'd give the independent tilt/shift axes to the 17 and 24 but not the 45 and 90. I would assume they'd integrate that feature into the whole line up so the 45 and 90 will be updated. Now it's just a question of when.

The MTF for the 45 could also use some work... and the imaging circle is smaller in comparison to the new "Medium Format" TS-E lenses (only +/-11mm for shift IIRC), but the 90 looks pretty sharp in the crops I have seen (never seen 100% edges with full shift in effect however). I am seriously considering the 90 though for compressed landscapes with foreground flower detail, on top of which stitching panos with a rail to avoid parallax. By the numbers, it looks like about 30MP from the 5D2, and 45ish using a 500D, which should be enough to live on (approaching MF territory assuming the lens holds up), but I just hate to think they are slated to be upgraded in the near future (the 24 looks worlds sharper and more useful than the original)... decisions, decisions!

Indeed it does. I love aspherical elements!

If and when they upgrade the 45 and 90 it would be nice if they added a 65mm TS-E to the lineup.

I'd prefer Canon update the following lenses

05/1993 - EF 400mm f/5.6L USM > IS
04/1996 - EF 135mm f/2L USM > f/1.8 IS
04/1996 - EF 180mm f/3.5L Macro USM > IS
12/1998 - EF 35mm f/1.4L USM > Series II
