I just started watching him on PBS, good stuff to see his technique. I DVR'd his desert shots in Mexico, quite interesting.

I like his shows as well...he has a good eye from wildlife to landscape to abstract.

I'll pass. I'm not saying he is not a good photographer, but some of the hype about him is overblown. And the hype about the show is totally overblown.

The few times I've watched the "Edge" show, he blathered on and on about environmental issues, (non-photographic) comments about the subject he was shooting, the politics of the country he was in, etc., but spent very little to no time whatsoever talking about anything to do with photography.

I don't watch the show any more. I found that watching it with the hope of learning something useful about photography was a waste of time.

Fair enough, but also keep in mind that the show is geared towards the casual viewer more than amateur/pro photographers. Most people just want to see the final picture and hear what he has to say about his journey.

I like the show, but in no way is it a photography show. I see it as a travel show.

The old Canon tv show where they had a guest celebrity photographer each week was at least trying to be a photography show.

6D, 60D, Various L and non-L Lenses and more gear than I have time to use. ;)

Also fair enough. Except this is what it says at the official website (external link):

"He teaches you professional photographic techniques in such an intimate manner that you feel as if you're right there with him getting a personal photography lesson."

... and that just don't happen on the show.

I have to agree that the show really doesn't address technique much (in some of the shows he does address composition, and in others some mention of why he chose one type of lens over another)...but mostly, just a lot of sight-scenic babble...but the shots he got for Nat'l Geo are nice to see...and it was a nice surprise...
