Lens for news/paparazzi type

I need a lens for doing paparazzie type work, basically need to go round shooting a fare at college and have also been looking into a lens for more dynamic general use anyway seeing as my 50mm doesnt give me many options

i only have £200 (UK) to spend but will go used

looking for something inbetween like 24 and 80-100 , and wud rather not have it any higher than F4 at the long end

Sigma makes a 24-60 2.8 that can sometimes be found at bargain prices. You might be able to find a good deal on a used Sigma 24-70.

I think you'll find you're going to have to compromise on range, f/4 at the long end, or price.

edit: The Sigma 17-70 is 2.8-4.5 and is a pretty well regarded lens, and there is the 24-85, but I know nothing about it.

the 24-70 goes for around 150

might go for that
would like a grip wich can be had for 50 for an ebay one
wich brings me up to my 200!
