I went out to Howth today to see if I could get some nice black and white shots of some of the local landmarks. I dont do a lot of landscape work so always good to keep my eye in. I wanted a vivid colour shot that would make a good B&W conversion without too much fiddling around.

I shot with the Canon 1dmk3 17-40L with a polariser and mostly using the 5 shot bracketing with a 1 stop spread, converted shots using Photomatix Pro and then using the enhance contrast setting in Topaz Labs and the reduce noise setting of 5, in curves used medium contrast and channel mixer to monochrome. Applied curves with medium contrast again.

Saying all that I wanted over the top results so thats what I got
C&C welcome as always

I'm not partial to HDR, but the lighthouse shot (#5) is great.

Keep up the good work.

Joergeske, they always seem to merge better when I handhold them.

Thanks jrader, I try not to use it too much but the objective in the instance was to get to a better black and white shot.

I really like the B&W conversions. I prefer them to the color versions, although it's normally the other way around for me. Very nice.

It took me a minute to figure out what you meant by "I have seen the green bin." At first I thought it must be some Irish slang I didn't understand :)

Thanks for the comments. The colour shots are the journey and the black and white ones are the destination

These would be great if they weren't overprocessed.

I really like the B&Ws. I would have PP'd out the jet trail in #3 and #4.

I agree with Grimlock, love the B&W conversion of the lighthouse shot. That said, I also really like both the original HDR and the B & W of the 1st shot. Well done.
