Few shots from a recent shoot. Great model, total laugh a minute, and a proper tomboy. Very talented MUA too... Good combo.

Comments welcome. :)

Shiney goodness!

I love all of them, and you have really got something going with that last one, in terms of creating a unique look to use in different ways.

I like them, but your lens is way too sharp. The shots aren't even oversharpened much, the lens is just too sharp!

Get a softer lens .

Thank you, and yes it's an Orbis. I got it about a week before shooting these images. Still very much learning how to get the best out of it, including how to minimise or eliminate the visibility of the various opacity sections of the Orbis' ring. It's a very effective bit of kit though, this is basically just bolt it on and go! :D

How dare you! Take that back! :p These are all with the 24-70L, and believe it or not, when the piggybank lets me, primes are the next move!

And yes it does doesn't it? I think the trick is to under-expose the background/ambient light a fair bit, but not enough to make it just flash light. Dead easy to use though. Just need a bracket to mount the flash/ring to the camera. :)

Cheers, Dave.

I see too much sharpening or DOF resulting in too much detail in her skin that isn't flattering. The last 2 also seem to have bad direct and harsh flash.

Question, why is direct flash bad?
Its a ring flash, so for it to work it has to be direct.

Well in this instance, the last 2 photos scream "too much flash" and it isn't diffused or softened at all. The flash overpowers the subject, resulting in a non-flattering photo. If it was a ring flash, it wasn't used the best it could be.
