What is the difference other than the Digi II and III ?
Price 4O D is about 300 more than XTI .
Digi III that much better than II ?

A worthy upgrade IMHO.

A thread discussing the subject is HERE

I sure was hoping it would be when I upgraded. Feature wise it's a great upgrade. Live view, better AF, more FPS, larger viewfinder, and a few minor features. Image quality wise it's a wash. They are so close to being the same that in almost all instances you wouldn't be able to tell the difference.

Not sure why, but call me JJ.
I used to hate math but then I realised decimals have a point.

I have an XTi but I think 40D is worth $300 more for its additional features.

Nikon/Fuji.
Gear is important but skills are very important :)

Thanks , I am considering the 40 D as a 2nd - tired of missing shots by changing lens .
I looked up and did not see the bigger battery , fps , shutter speed increase .
Now a used EFS 17-55 [refurb] or 40 D ?
The canon site

was what I was comparing to .
