I doubt that person would be able to get 1' from me before he/she was on the ground with my foot in there mouth while I called the police. That's a hefty damage bill right there. I hope everything works out for your bud.:(

I think they would be at least 6' away before your camera hit the floor and another 6" before you picked it up.

Uh, huh. And then you're off to jail. Where you'd belong. That's why we have laws, to protect us from people like you.

Bye, everyone. Unsubscribing.

At what point does a machine, regardless of cost, become more valuable than another human being?

I guess that depends on who the person is, where the machine is located and the circumstances.

A family member? No machine is worth more than they are.

A camera located in my house at 2am and some stranger has just broken in? I hope they have life insurance.

So, it all "depends".

Once again, to anyone placing the least bit of blame on the passerby; The camera should have been secured. Leave expensive equipment unattended at your own risk!

Unattended includes unsecured. If it's not attached to you or out of others reach, it can go bye bye very quickly.

It wasn't unattended. It was at a table with multiple people.

And there wasn't so much as a "Hey, can you watch this while I get my bag?"

It would have been an assumption if that was a statement... it was a question, thank you sir. If you've read any of my responses here, I've made no assumptions.

My point is... if he did ask someone to watch it, then the person watching it is just as much to blame than anyone else for letting the camera drop.

i dont know.. without reading all 17 pages of this... suing someone for your stupidity is lame. i dont have 9k worth of gear, but if i did< i wouldnt have left it anywhere where anything might happen to it.

and thinking of suing a BB employee, and actually thinking that youll get a dime out of her, thats even more stupid.

most best buy employees dont even know what they are selling you when you walk into their store. let alone aplogize for knocking over a camera that should have been far out of the way of any accident.

the most you can do is probably complain the the BB that was close to the restraunt. But the likleyhood of them caring, is probably slim.

next time insurance...

sorry about the broken camera.

That's the ultimate moral to this story.

If you have $9k and gear and you can't afford to replace it if something happens to it, you better insure it. If $9k is pocket change, then who cares? Oops, I guess it's time for a new camera.

What the hell is "gears?" Gears are the little things in watches.

As for a person that would leave $9k of gear at the edge of a table, well... 'Nuf said.

I don't remember it ever being said that it was on the edge of the table.

No kidding. I assumed this thread would either die or be locked about 10 pages ago.

So you mean to tell me that a passing handbag dragged a 5lb. camera/lens off the middle of the table?

The only other explanation is that the strap was hanging off the edge of the table.

Either that, or that lady was walking REAL funny.

#1) Outside insurance agents are usually 'tards. I'd call your company or claims department direct to verify this.

#2) Sure, your policy may vary from state to state, company to company, but generally, there are certain "perils" or causes of loss under which a contents (camera) loss would be covered. The specific incident of the OP would not be covered under a standard HO policy.

#3) You stated you bumped up your policy to 5k. This would mean you added an endorsement or rider. In other words, you don't have the "standard" policy. Many specific riders or additions will cover contents loss regardless of cause. Of course you have to pay an extra premium for it. This may be what you have. I was referring to the specific case of the OP, not yours.

#4) I'm an insurance adjuster and do this day in and day out :p

Not entirely true.

After reading this story I called my insurance agent and found out my camera was covered up to $1,500 given my policy. Obviously this amount/coverage changes depending on your particular company/policy. For me, this would cover the cost of my camera only... a 50D. Nothing near the price of a 1Dx. Conversely, I have $5,000 coverage for firearms by default with my policy. Go figure.

Different policies and companies will have different coverage.

I bumped my coverage to $5k which covers pretty much everything I carry in my camera bag for $80 a year.

If you have $$$ in gear and use it ALOT in areas/events that might get damage/stolen. Get REAL insurance for professional photography. They cost about $500+ in southern cal...

Nite...and unsubscribing too...
