I bought this lens a few weeks back, but the package never arrived from the supplier - so after a VERY long and protracted procedure I have finally received my refund!

Luckily my local camera store has this item in stock and I know the first few had problems early last year, which have now been apparently resolved.

They are only a small chain (around 4 shops in the NW of England) and I was worried they may have old stock of this unit, "sitting on the shelf"

Is there anyway to date this particular lens? Any serial number changes etc?

Any help would be appreciated.

Tony

Well I assumed that they changed something in the lens that made the original problems (continuous shooting rate in certain focus modes) disappear.

All they had to do was "flash" the lens with new firmware. In theory there should be no problems with continous shooting anymore because, all the lenses sigma sends out now are ok, and old lenses (if there are any left on the shelves) were supposed to be sent back to sigma for the fix.

If in the rare chance you get one that does not work properly on the 40D sigma will fix it for free.

also, there is a serial code (i don't know it) that after that all lens had the proper firmware. Check the sigma website for the recall notice.
