Ok I have been looking at a new body. I am down to just 2 choices the 1D mkIII or the 5D mkII. I no this has been asked like a million times. I know the differance in them. (ones ff the other is 1.3, fps, etc, etc) I find myself pulled more towards the 1D but some of the features on the 5D are nice. ( Like video with the kids events ) Then I am not sure about the 1.3 crop on the 1D. I really like the ff idea. See he I go again. I have been doing thos for a week now and still cant decide. Someone please help my head is going to explode if I read 1 more review or vs thread.

If you're interested in having FF and the video ability, I say just get the 5D mk2. Based on those two things, why would you consider the 1D mkIII over the 5D mk2?

If your life depended on buying one right now which would you buy? If you didn't pick one you would be dead in one minute, which would you choose?

Well the 1D would be nice when/and if the new nascar track goes in. Plus other sports in the area. And IMO the 1D is just a nice camera. I have drolled over it for a while now.

I would have to agree and say the MK III if you are wanting to go to the nascar track (when built) however if you need to print out the pics to a huge size then maybe the 5D is better for you.

I don't think you will regret buying the MK III if you choose to, its just a little more $'s up front.

Thanks I am going to go with the mkIII. The only reason the video would have been nice is those rare times at a kid events.

Just out of curiosity... what do you shoot? That should have the most bearing on your decision, unless you just like having an expensive camera.

You do realize that if you cropped down the 5D MKII images to the 1.3x FOV, you would actually get MORE MP with the cropped 5D image than with the 1D MKIII. If you are thinking that the 1D MKIII and it's 1.3x sensor gives you more "reach" over the FF 5D, then that is wrong. The key thing the 1D is giving you over the 5D is AF, build, and more customization. 5D gives you better IQ, higher ISO support, more "reach" in cropped photos, at the expense of poorer AF, build over the 1D.

Now, the fortunate thing is that used 1D MKIII's prices are about the same as new 5D MKII prices. What ever camera you buy, and if you decide it's not for you, then you will most likely be able to trade it for the other brand for pretty close to an even swap. It's a no lose proposition.

Great choice, you won't be dissapointed. If I still shot weddings (unofficially retired), I would still use the Mk III. I love this camera.
