Spent a very enjoyable day on the ranges yesterday. Used the day to test drive the new 135mm f/2 lens ...

Looks good Jay, it gives that "pop" you were after

#1 is nice, I've seen a competition winning shot from there before, #3 would work in b&w i think

All very nice apart from the last(not sure it works) imo of course;)

Yesterday was shorts & t-shirt weather ;) ... had a bit of a sweat on with the amount of ground I covered!

Thanks Rich .. the village looks great from a distance, not quite so pretty up close.

Cheers Chris. Really happy with the 135mm, I'm generally finding the longer the lens you use the more the car becomes the prominent feature of the photo.

Thanks Ant :D. Of course photography is very subjective .. The last is actually in my favorite 2 photos I took all day. Bonkers eh?

Cheers Nick ... cant wait to get back on the ranges ... soo many options for different photos. Though next time I wont be too quick to venture into the village.

Everytime I go up there I stumble on a new location which always seems to be better than the previous one. You've got to love the ranges :D

Cheers Baldy, I guess the 'power' of the f2 is more prevelant with that image. With the shallow DOF you can get a nice pop

#1, #3, #6 and #7 are top drawer Jay - it is obvious that you gave you composition a lot of thought with these.

I like #1 for the background - my wife asked me where in Europe the shot had been taken when she looked at it because of the buildings in the background. had to chuckle when I told her it was on the Epynt military ranges.

Classic rule of thirds and strong lead in line on #3, but the inclusion of the S bend sign makes the shot IMHO.

#7 is nearly perfect, but for the eejit in the background with the bight yellow jacket on - why do people insist on wearing these things while out on rallies!?!?! And why do you invariably end up with someone wearing one in the background of your pictures !

I can see why you like #7. More of your trade mark rule of thirds and lead in lines and a good B+W conversion. Shame the sky wasn't a little more dramatic, as that would have made the shot about perfect.

Cracking series, both here and on your website (like some of your wider stuff from the German Village).

Simon.

#1 and #4 for me, although they're all good.

Well done on the composition. It's really good seeing what's around the cars and showing the environment they're racing in, after all that's what makes rallying different to circuit racing.

Cheers Simon, my wife also did a double take and queried where I'd spent the day :)

As you say, I did put quite a bit of thought into the composition ... not always that easier when you are in the forest.

Dont get me started on flouro jackets, they are the bane of my life .... I have no problem with speccies in my photos, in fact I often encourage it ... just wish they would leave the ******* **** coats at home! (rant over :))

Thanks Kiwi, to me it's the environment that make rallying ... so I always try and capture some of it in my photos.
