Brett, you can always try pointing the flash head up, and just use the catchlight card, if you have one, to push some light forward. Or, just use an index card, rubber band it to the flash head, and go to town. :)

I would like to know if I did it right, wrong or what can I do to improve ...

I left it soft and smoothen the skin because I thought it go with the mood I was looking for .. but for all I know I probably skipped every single level and miss the mark!

Jon, the camera is in manual. I've been playing around, and it seems the 430EX has more power than I gave it credit for. I ended up with decent exposures at 1/64th power at 1/200 and f/4.

Manish, I have ABBC that I made; I was using that. Also, bounce off the ceilings and walls. I have a light stand and umbrella coming, but it's going to be a probably next week.

Rikan, I like the way she looks, but I'm not crazy about the fact that she looks pasted on to the background, almost as if she's standing in front of a backdrop with the water image on it. That said, it's really nice work. I could see someone using that as an album cover. :)

Thanks everyone for the flash help. :D

man .. I see what you mean .. that was the last thing going thru my mind, but I can see what you are talking about .. love when I others open my eyes ...

thanks

bminear - whats on the top left of the picture ????

*edit*
I think you should crop a little tighter from the cameras left . I see the stand .. :p

also I can be way off as like I stated many times I don't know anything about lighting .. but if I was taking that picture I would of have moved the light from the camera left more to the camera .. the angle the light is coming from is not working at all for me because it is lighting the back of the ear/neck and its just to strong (so it looks out of place) .. also if you notice the shadows on the floor - well IMHO the lighting just clashes not only because the floor shadows but also because the face is well light to begging with and then its just off balanced by the flash ..

Like I said .. don't even go by what I'm saying .. its just what I'm noticing and what I would of have done different .. I have no experience in lighting and my playing time with them has been a two time outing ....

unless you dont mind spending more money .. I'll suggest you get out of here and stay out of here .. between Perry Geno TaDa and a few others ... they'll manage to break your package very easily .. not so much Geno and TaDa but that Perry .. yeah that guy .. ugh .. yeah him .. he will break your pockets big time!

P.S. Dont believe me .. whenever they talk about a lens up in here and its suggested by Perry .. you'll see about 3 guys from in here in the sell forum trying to buy it .. he he he ..

look at the 135L .. about 3 from here are on the hunt!

OK. You know how when you think of something that might happen then it does?

I was out shooting in the high winds today and thought "Gee, I should put my tripod away before it blows over". I then proceeded to deal with all the lenses and stuff spread out in my trunk and I hear a crash and there's my tripod flat out on the pavement. At least I was smart enough to take the camera off but I still got road rash on my tripod and the ballhead.

Lesson - do it when you think of it!

PS. To top it all off, the photos were crap!

Deleted the photos. I guess they were a bit too touristy to interest anyone here.

Didn't get to see them but I can tell you I like touristy stuff!

Like this ..

My two cents. I like the shot but would like to see more of the left side of her face. I'm also distracted by the scarf. I'd like to see the colour version.

I'm glad to see you dont read my post .. hahahaha.. I already gave my spills about my two mishaps .. unlike you on one the camera was left on with the lens and lens broke .. already in canon for repairs and on the second one the AB800 was left on and puff the AB800 broke in half .. another on the way .. but whatever ...

I did read your post, that's what made me think about the tripod but I guess in the back of my mind I thought WTF, it won't blow over an empty tripod. At least you made me think about taking the camera off!

See, I like the colour version better. Now the scarf looks right to me. One thing I've learned about POTN (or any other forum) is you will get two opinions on everything. Go with what floats your boat! :)

Awww....sad you did that....I saw them at work and I didn't get a chance to comment. The colors were lovely and the tree on was very nice!
