Thanks Geno DM. It's fresh from this weekend.
I also posted it in the SMWYG photos Only thread for March.
Maybe that's where you also saw it.

I know you did. You know you have to ask permission to post photos on that thread? :)

I'm really trying to decide if I "need" to upgrade from my 40D to a 5D....

Sorry, wrong thread to be asking if you should get a 5D. I have both and use the 5D more. When I had a 1DIII, I used it more. Guess the 40D isn't my fave. :)

At least the camera wasn't on the dang thing. That must have been some serious wind, or your tripod is very light (I'm guessing the latter).

It's some basalt thing from Gitzo. Not as light as CF but lighter than steel. I had it behind my car and thought it was sheilded enough. Guess not. Oh well, at least I don't have to worry about scratching it any more. :)

Maybe I knew people in here would sway me in the right direction...

Get the 5D. :)

Here's one salvaged from today and another showing what happens when you stack too many filters on the 24L. :)

I just did!

I told myself I would just wait for the right 5D to come along at a good price.

So, I go on Ebay, and within the last 15 minutes somebody put up a 5D described as....

-Mint+++ Not a single scratch or ding
-Under 500 actuations
-Complete with box, charger, manuals, etc.

401 feedback at 100%...Sounds good to me.

So, 1350 with free shipping, minus the 175 Paypal cash back, and I have a damn near brand new 5D coming for $1175!

I'm so pumped right now! :D

Channel 3's News Anchor Gerard Ramalho while doing a story about the new super virus that is supposed to be coming, and the fear it is creating.
He is shooting the story inside a well known store called Hahns Military Surplus in North Las Vegas, NV. while pointing at survival goods.
Shot with the 5D (of course) with a 28-105 EF lens.

That is a great price! You definitely will not regret getting the 5D one bit.

hmmmm never thought about just holding them instead of buying a holder........ lol. Do you just set up your shot on a tripod and use a remote while holding the filter? or do you handhold the camera and filter at the same time? (that seems like it would be tough)

For the shots that I would be using a Grad ND on, my 5D is always on a tripod with remote shutter release. Left hand holds the filter, right holds the remote.

Geno, Rikan (Ivan?), Tiffany and Brett (hope I didn't overlook someone), thank you very much for the encouragement! OK, here they are again. Fortunately, I still have the post cached, so it's easy to repost it.

Don't feel you have to comment! That's not what this was about. Deleting the photos had nothing to do with comments made or not made. It's just that I felt small and amateurish all of a sudden when I saw my snapshots together with the professional model shots posted by others.

---------------

To try out my new 5D I did some "touristing" (is that a word?) in my own town today. Below are some of the shots, all with 35L.

I have found that I enjoy myself a lot more if 35L is the only wide:ish lens I bring. That way I can relax and find subjects that fit that focal length and don't keep thinking about switching lenses. 135L was mounted on the other camera, but I didn't use it much today.

^^^ I quite like the last shot! I think that I also have a hard time figuring out what compositions in "my back yard" would be of interest to others. I think that it's all too easy to take for granted the small things that make your part of the world interesting to people from different parts of the world.

Just picked up a 135L late last week - after I traded my 70-200 4L IS towards a 35L, I was pretty much vacant on the tele end (which isn't so bad, as I'm gravitating towards the wider end, anyway). In any event, I wanted to have something to cover the longer reach when I need it, and I figured that the 135L with a TC would do the trick. I just love the isolation that this can provide, even with focus points that are pretty distant. It gives this a bit of a dreamy look that I like -

And this thing is pretty damn sharp (see cobweb on the focused scroll) -
