Don't feel you have to comment! That's not what this was about. Deleting the photos had nothing to do with comments made or not made. It's just that I felt small and amateurish all of a sudden when I saw my snapshots together with the professional model shots posted by others.

Helena...it's not worth it to feel that way. You have a 'hobby' that you enjoy...and you enjoy it every moment you can. You share pictures, and it's appreciated. Never feel that you can't share something, because it's not at a certain 'level.' I don't feel anyone in here is running a competition. It's just an admirers thread, where some are more advanced users, than others. But, we all share each others' 'experiences' more than anything. ;)

^ wait... that top picture (or subject) looks eerily familiar...

I thought I might give it a go in the daytime with an ND and Polarizer. I prefer the night shot. :)

I just did!

That was quick! Congratulations, can hardly wait to see photos of the delivery.

Don't feel you have to comment!

Helena, sometimes I don't comment because I either don't have time or don't know what to say or am just not in the mood. I'm pretty new at this so sometimes I leave commenting to people that know better.

Saying that, your photos are incredibly sharp. Yes all but the tree (which would rightfully be called gnarley), are a little snapshotish but honestly who cares? They're great shots of your home town and while they might not be on the wall of some rich dude's house I'm happy you shared a bit of your life with me.

As far as I'm concerned you can post anything you like, you don't even have to be proud of it (take a look at my last photo of vignetting).

Just picked up a 135L late last week

Thanks. I know I'm going to get divorced soon... 35L, 50L, 135L...

Geno, Rikan (Ivan?), Tiffany and Brett (hope I didn't overlook someone), thank you very much for the encouragement! OK, here they are again. Fortunately, I still have the post cached, so it's easy to repost it.

---------------

To try out my new 5D I did some "touristing" (is that a word?) in my own town today. Below are some of the shots, all with 35L.

I have found that I enjoy myself a lot more if 35L is the only wide:ish lens I bring. That way I can relax and find subjects that fit that focal length and don't keep thinking about switching lenses. 135L was mounted on the other camera, but I didn't use it much today.

The only amateurish shots I ever see in this thread are my own. :o

I love the PJ shots. It may just be my un-calibrated work monitor, but I really like the feel of the colors.

The shot of the bike repair shop is really cool too. Great colors.

Just make sure you NEVER... I mean NEVER play with a 1D. Once you hold one, you'll never want to let it go... EVER... :)

The 5D is great though. The short 2 months I had it, I actually used it more than my 1D Mark III. I think the perfect setup is 1D / 5D. Ask Perry!!! ;)

I have this combo as well...and love it.....

Yes, I'm a fellow shooter. I've been shooting guns since I was about 8 years old. Never competitively though. It just caught my eye because I have a couple Glocks, a 19 for range/home-protection, and a 27 is my carry at my shop, plus five Colts I inherited from my dad. :D

I have a Mini 14 from 1978....all wood stock in perfect condition that I would trade for lens.....;)

I wouldn't trade that! I wouldn't trade any of my guns for camera equipment, just as I wouldn't trade any of my guitars. I can't pillage one hobby to fund another. :)

Helena,

First and foremost this is a 5D enjoyment thread. In my opinion we can't get much enjoyment if we don't post pics....so post away! Your shots are fine.

Just always remember....when you see shots that may be above your current level.....the tog that took them was at the same point you are now at one point.

We are all human, we all put our pants on one leg at a time.....we all stumble and we all fall. It is fellowship with other like minded humans that allow us to feel welcome, to learn and to grow....

So please share your work with us....your struggles with us...and your victories with us!

^^^ I quite like the last shot! I think that I also have a hard time figuring out what compositions in "my back yard" would be of interest to others. I think that it's all too easy to take for granted the small things that make your part of the world interesting to people from different parts of the world.

Thank you! Yes, it's not as easy as it seems to "document" your home town. Since I enjoy seeing other people's photos of their towns I'll continue doing it and try and improve on the choice of subjects, composition etc., so that they become more interesting from an artistic POV.

Thank you Manish! You're right - I shouldn't compare myself with others, but it's hard not to sometimes. :)

Geno, you mention sharpness; do you feel that they are oversharpened, or was it a positive remark? The originals are super sharp (I'm beginning to think that this "new" 5D is even sharper than my first one!), but when I resize I find it hard to get the same naturally sharp look.

Thank you very much Brett! I have found that the 35L gives very pleasant colors. Saturated without being overly so. More natural the the ones I get from my 17-40L (but I still like that lens a lot).

I hear ya...but I am not one that lets something just sit. I have never shot it since I received it as a gift a year or so ago. I love to shoot...just not guns...;)

I have a couple sweet shotguns as well...sitting.....one is a Savage 20 gage lever action from the 20's. It was my great grandfathers...needless to say I am keeping that one....

Well, I CALL myself a pro for all intents and purposes as I have a business that is starting to rev up but I don't feel it. There's always something to learn and more practice.

Heck, I just figured out last weekend how to change focus points on the 5D.

I just did!

I told myself I would just wait for the right 5D to come along at a good price.

So, I go on Ebay, and within the last 15 minutes somebody put up a 5D described as....

-Mint+++ Not a single scratch or ding
-Under 500 actuations
-Complete with box, charger, manuals, etc.

401 feedback at 100%...Sounds good to me.

So, 1350 with free shipping, minus the 175 Paypal cash back, and I have a damn near brand new 5D coming for $1175!

I'm so pumped right now! :D

Congrats dude!!! Im sure you will love it. :D im pretty sure ill never go back to a crop body again (unless its a 1DMKIII ;)) but Ill always have a FF body from now on.

I do that too...and I know how you feel. Sometimes, my work pales in comparison to others...but, it's how I learn to become better. I'm going to give film a whirl again, soon...and see what I can come up with. Kinda go backwords...if you will. :)
