Well, I CALL myself a pro for all intents and purposes as I have a business that is starting to rev up but I don't feel it. There's always something to learn and more practice.

Heck, I just figured out last weekend how to change focus points on the 5D.

lol. try going from a 1D to a 5D. On the 1D, you can use the joystick to change the focus point on the fly... When I got the 5D, I was doing that and was confused as to why it wouldn't change... then I realized I had to hit that dang button to change the focus point. :) You're not alone.

Interesting shot, for sure, Michael.

And since we're being told 'not' to yap anymore...here's one more. 5D, 300 F4L IS, and I think exif should be intact...? Not sure if I posted this in the other thread, but, here it is again, if I did. ;)

A Stropheus Hairstreak, on a Lantana. It's about the size of a US $0.10 cent coin.

Umm...you CAN use the joystick on the 5D. That's what I learned. It's a custom function and you don't have to push any special button to do it.

Thank you Geno! You're new at this!? You're kidding, right? Seriously, I honestly thought that you were one of the pros here. Same with Tiffany. I haven't seen much of your work Tiffany, but what I have seen was very impressive.

Geno, you mention sharpness; do you feel that they are oversharpened, or was it a positive remark? The originals are super sharp (I'm beginning to think that this "new" 5D is even sharper than my first one!), but when I resize I find it hard to get the same naturally sharp look.

I have a G2 that I used to take snaps with up until November of 2007 when I got my 40D. I've taken a couple of photo classes to help me take better shots. Remember, you only see about 1% of the shots I take, the other 99% will never make it past my hard drive.

Your photos aren't oversharpened, they are very crisp and clear.

a rather "interesting" shot I took over my spring break.

I think that van needs some prayer and saving!

Thanks. It wasn't cropped much, if at all (I'll check when I get home). When you're in macro mode, with the 300 (4.9 feet), it's pretty much filling the frame, with small objects such as this guy. Once the flowers come back this year, I'll try to get some more. Just that these things are so darn skittish...it takes lots of patience to capture them.

There's another set of butterflies, that are 'way' too fast...and I hardly have any good shots with them. I try...and it's kinda hard. I've got way more deleted ones, than keepers. ;)

very cool. I am thinking of getting rid of my 70-200f4 for either a 300L, 400L, or 100-400 so I can do a little more birding. We set up a humming bird feeder set off the back deck a little for the summer. Id like to try and get some shots this summer.

Before you said that-- I was thinking why am I complaining but not contributing. I have not had my 5D out in a while-- but took it with me last night-- I had to do a video shoot for a talented little girl who I have photographed many times.
This is a good story so stick with me---- I photographed her a few years ago for NBC's America's Got Talent-- she was 4 then-- now she is 6 and I did a photo shoot with her for Warner Brothers-- come to find out they are interested-- based on CD of her singing and my photos--- I had to some video work with her -- last min-- yesterday and brought my 5D to take a quick snap of us recording. Here is the (less than good photo)

IMAGE: http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g303/stathunter/WEBIMG_3600.jpg

Give me a second and I will grad one other photo that the studio will let me show.
EDIT--- ok here is one with the 5D and I think either 17-40 or 16-35--- dont remember which one. This was obviously not the best shot-- but not one that the the studio is going to use-- we did some great early morning shooting for her gig---- lots of creative shots-- and it worked.....she is moving up quickly.

One thing I've noticed with the 400 and 100-400 is that the 100-400 isn't 'quite' as sharp as the prime, at the long end. However, the 100-400 is a more versatile lens...in that it's got the whole range. For example, when at the zoo, the 100-400 beats the 400. For birds in flight, the 400 beats the 1-4. So, there will always be a tradeoff, between those two...and in the end, the 400 for me was a better choice. I'm not at the zoo, very often. :)
