Ouch! Didn't mean to offend you. I just don't remember who here shoots to earn money and who of us shoot to spend money.

When you have a lousy shot and all else fails, convert it to high contrast B&W. :-)

No offense taken-- I was just pulling your chain. I am still up in the air about selling my 5D --- It does not see much use............ I need to make a decision quick if it is staying---- or I am going to get another body (D700) for a back up for wedding season.

Texture added in post.

Can you explain a little bit about your method, for doing this? I'm intrigued. :)

And since we're being told 'not' to yap anymore...here's one more. 5D, 300 F4L IS, and I think exif should be intact...? Not sure if I posted this in the other thread, but, here it is again, if I did. ;)

A Stropheus Hairstreak, on a Lantana. It's about the size of a US $0.10 cent coin.

Wow... Just wow! So sharp and wonderful colors.

I have been thinking about getting the 300/4IS if I sell the 200/2.8. It's great MFD is very appealing, but I don't think I do enough tele work to justify it. However, I can't wait to try my 200mm with the "new, improved" MFD. LOL

This thread also helped me a bit, and as we speak I'm sitting at home antzy about the truck to bring me my Ol' 5D and I'm getting a 24-70 today too!

SOOOOooo Excited. I'll post up some test shot soon ;)

Congratulations! You'll love it. :)

It looks very nice! I can't decide if I love or don't like that the upside of the "poles" line up with the horizon though. It would be interesting to hear what others think.

Bunch of interesting shots.

The Bible Study van is great; it's got a great old feel to it.

I'd like to see the senior photo with a hair light, to separate him a bit from the BG, but it's not like I'd know how to do that well myself. :o

The butterfly is awesome. I didn't know a 300mm would be any good for pseudo-macro work.

Geno, I believe you posted that racking earlier, I remember an explanation about what the customer moves around with those.

Is it possible the B&W "lousy shot" (your words ;) ) is suffering from diffraction at f/22? I'm not knocking the shot, but it almost looks like that's the case.

Now I have to find something to post when I get home. :)

Helena, the 200 f2.8 is on my list of primes, to own. That, and the 135L, and I'd be done, as far as lenes go. I had a 70-200 f/4 that I sold to a friend...so, I need a replacements for that FL. I wouldn't sell the 200...just add a 300. Opens up lots of options...and the IS helps. ;)

As for the shot of the water, with the poles, I think if the mountains were burned in a little, it might make that difference...which is why I asked Geno if he could do that?

Texture stuff is easy and I'm addicted to it!!!

What you do is take a photo of something with a texture and place it onto the photo you want to add it to.

Change the blend mode on the texture to whatever you like. I normally use overlay but on this one I used luminance. You can vary opacity to taste.

I then add a layer mask to the texture layer and mask off where I don't want it to show.

There's a link to some GREAT textures (including the one I used here) and how to use them here (external link).

Perfect, thanks a bunch. With the layer mask, do you just use a paintbrush, to paint over? So, you add the texture, and then use a white brush to bring your subject back into the shot?

As for your suituation for a hairlight...you can use a styrofoam cup, and use black tape to make it a snoot, for a hairlight. This way, You have the B800 as the Main, and the 430 in a cup up high, pointed at your subjects' hair/bg/whatever. That should do it. :)

Agreed on the 135L. :)

I'm shooting a bunch of youth camps in the month of April and decided to rent a 135L for the month to see how it works out. I think it'll be nice... I hope!
