Texture stuff is easy and I'm addicted to it!!!

What you do is take a photo of something with a texture and place it onto the photo you want to add it to.

Change the blend mode on the texture to whatever you like. I normally use overlay but on this one I used luminance. You can vary opacity to taste.

I then add a layer mask to the texture layer and mask off where I don't want it to show.

It still takes a fair amount of skill to do though. You're certainly way better at it than I am . Do you use a tablet to edit, Tiff?

Perfect, thanks a bunch. With the layer mask, do you just use a paintbrush, to paint over? So, you add the texture, and then use a white brush to bring your subject back into the shot?

As for your suituation for a hairlight...you can use a styrofoam cup, and use black tape to make it a snoot, for a hairlight. This way, You have the B800 as the Main, and the 430 in a cup up high, pointed at your subjects' hair/bg/whatever. That should do it. :)

Yep. I just use the paintrush. But, on this one I did a selection....so I selected the black bg using the select by color range and then added the mask using the selection. I then used the paintbrush to refine the mask. It's pretty slick

And, that would be great on the hair light except I have a 420 which has NO manual control whatsoever.

I have one but rarely use it. I keep forgetting to use it. But, when I want to be REALLY precise, I will bust it out.

Helena, the 200 f2.8 is on my list of primes, to own. That, and the 135L, and I'd be done, as far as lenes go. I had a 70-200 f/4 that I sold to a friend...so, I need a replacements for that FL. I wouldn't sell the 200...just add a 300. Opens up lots of options...and the IS helps. ;)

Lalala I'm not hearing you! *Puts fingers in ears* (or more correctly: I'm not seeing your post *puts hands before eyes*). I have decided not to get anymore lenses unless I sell one, so don't tempt me please! :D

The only lenses I really need are 35L, 135L, 1.4x TC, and the tiny 24/2.8 for wide shots indoors and outdoors, but the other ones are nice to have too and I do find use for them. :)

As for the shot of the water, with the poles, I think if the mountains were burned in a little, it might make that difference...which is why I asked Geno if he could do that?

Interesting thought. Yes, that might do the trick. I still like it though.

You guys are evil! LOL

No, I haven't tried the 85L and don't plan to. From what I have heard once you have tried it you're doomed...

It's a bit too heavy for me though and it's long MFD doesn't suit my type of photography (I like getting up close), so I think I'll be able to resist. The 50L on the other hand... It would be wonderful for one lens shooting, but I have decided not to buy anything new until October at the earliest (when I get the tax money) and maybe not even then.

Jay, what an interesting place! You captured it really well.

Jay I have seen those before - but not the green one, as Manish said. They look really cool!

Oooooohhhhh 50L :D. Good lens :D. The contrast on that thing is un-frickin'-believable. Better than the 85L.
