So a friend of mine just picked up a D700 which shoots something like 4fps. He also just picked up a battery pack from a D3(x) that will increase his D700 to 8fps. Is there anything like this possible over here on our side? Not saying I need/want fps, just curious.

20D, 40D, 50D, 1DMkIII, 1DsMkIII (and probably a couple of the 1DMkII variants) are all north of 6 fps right out of the box.

I think if Canon ever cross bred the 5D and the 1DMkIII without any bugs, it'd be the ultimate camera. Make it with a removable grip and weather resistant and say Goodnight competition.

Huh? The 20D is only 5fps, and the 1DsIII is also 5FPS (as is the 30D). The 1D classic, 1DII, 1DIIN, 1DIII, 40D, and 50D are the only Canon DSLR bodies that hit more than 5FPS.

So basically a D700 :p, just Canon-style.

Exactly except one that takes Canon lenses and has all the controls I'm used to.

my point was, regardless of fps out of the box, is there any cross-breeding between canon bodies? looks like the answer is no. time to write canon a letter.

The 20D, 30D, 40D and 50D all share the same grip don't they?

it's possible. but they're fps ratings are so similar that, to me, it wouldn't really make a difference.

Canon has made a clear distinction between its 1 series and its prosumer bodies (which the 5D is modeled after), whereas Nikon totally blurred the lines with their more recent bodies.

Canon owners weren't complaining much until the last year or so, but if you want to get a real earful, check out the sticky for the release of the 5D2. People were shocked and dismayed that it wasn't the equivalent to the Nikon D700. But the fact remains the 5D2 followed the design model for the 5D Classic (body design, AF, build quality).

It will be interesting to see what the next round of releases brings...

I'm not complaining by any means. I shot one burst with the 5D just to see how slow it really was and haven't touched it since. Was just a question out of curiosity.
