Great shots everyone! Glad I sold that 100mm macro, clearly I wasn't worthy, now that I see the portraits you guys shoot with it.

Am I the only one doing the Strobist Boot Camp II? Just shot the first challenge last night, a headshot of an unemployed friend who lost his job because of the global financial crisis - none other than Mr. Strawberry Danish himself: (I'm still laughing at that one)

Was a little kinder to him this time, shooting a ½CTO gelled 580EX II thru an eBay octabox to the left. 540EZ w. blue gel as kicker from the back. His friend Christina was there as well, acting as assistant and keeping the light stand from falling over in the wind. we pushed her in front of the camera as well:

While setting up the lights I did a total snap of her, just to gauge the light levels:

Remember me worrying wether my 50L was sharp enough? Here's an unsharpened 100% crop from that hand held F/4.5 shot:

Meh... guess I'll keep it.

I will be shooting mine tonight!

Nice work!

Spook, these strobist shots of yours' are quite good, and man, that 50L is razor sharp. I would love to get my hands on one of those, but would be hard pressed to let loose any of my current lineup. However, I am thinking of working towards a 50 1.4. I really like your shots on your Flickr with the 50 1.4. Well, for that matter, I also liked the 85 and the 100.:):D

Thanks man - and do get that 50 1.4, it's a gem! The 50L is nice, but justifying the cost of 4 x 50 1.4 is hard, even for me.

You have a good copy dkspook. Mine is softer, but it also needs focus calibration so I'm about to send it out again.

Be sure to post your post-calibration results. Guess I won't have to worry about mine anymore :)

Not shot with the 5D so I can't post it here. But my 5D is in the picture... as are 2 L primes.

First one she looks squinty not intense. Second could use just a little work on her midsection. Fourth one looks like she has a little dandruff in her hair. They are nice though. I bet it takes forever to get those shoes on.:lol:

Eh, I tried a real quick clone job on that. Still looks odd. Different crop maybe?

I have 403 of them, I'll look for a better shot.

We did have issues with the brightness. In a lot of shots she's squinting. I guess she doesn't usually come out in daylight.

Thanks for picking up those nits, I hadn't even noticed them!

Lol...I'm always good for a nit.

One trick I've done is when having the subject out where it's bright is tell them to close, compose the shot, and then tell them to open their eyes, fire off a few shots until the squinites get bad....and repeat.

Yep, and I have no clue. Mess around with stuff in liquify.

I'll give that a go. Hopefully, she won't end up saggy. :-)
