You should get the 1200mm 5.6. You could take shots of birds in Buffalo

Doesn't the curvature of the earth get in the way of properly framing a bird at that FL?

Bill is my name - I'm the most wanted man on my island, except I'm not on my island, of course. More's the pity.

See that Mark 3 and 400L in my sig? Well they're only there for one reason....lol. One day I want a 500 f4L IS...just to shoot birds. Good lord birding is a money suck .

To bird or not to bird, that tends to be a good question, since the answer is, well, $$!

Tony I was just browsing your Columbia River set on your PBase, and 2 of the gorge shots in particular are beautiful (the one with the bench in the bottom left and the hazy one with the bird in the middle) - you really should go back there at sunset when the light is better.

Yeah, it's a bit to travel, and I'm not even sure what the best time of day would be (it's on the south bank of the river so the sun is always a bit contrary) but I do need to get back there at some different times.

Those were the days, working with the 30D and 70-300 and getting ready to make the tumbles into the spendy stuff:)! A couple years makes a difference!

OK Poe, I'm jealous! Not just because it's a great shot (I presume it was with a 24-70) but because we're in the middle of a freeze here!

Thanks genodm. Surprisingly it's still rather cold (for California) in the mornings even though we're in March. A lot of the trees are in bloom around here. Lots of pink blossomed almond orchards along the highway.

BTW, I'm flattered you thought the photos were taken with a 24-70 (one of my favorite lenses) but I used the 45 TSE. I decided I needed to use this lens to decided if I should keep it or sell it and buy a 24-70.
